About Stonehmint
Built around one question: what will retirement actually cost you?
Stonehmint was founded in Québec City to give pre-retirees and recent retirees a clear, local, advisor-led answer to that question.
What Stonehmint does
Stonehmint is a retirement planning advisory firm based in Québec City, Canada. We work exclusively with individuals and couples who are within ten years of retirement or who have recently entered it. Our work covers four interconnected areas: savings optimization, income sequencing, estate financial coordination, and ongoing advisory. We do not sell investment products, manage portfolios on a discretionary basis, or offer insurance brokerage. Every engagement produces a written plan — a living document, not a sales pitch — reviewed and updated annually. Since opening in 2016, we have delivered more than 340 plans to clients across the greater Québec City region, including families in Sainte-Foy, Lévis, Beauport, and Charlesbourg. Our clients are typically professionals and public-sector workers navigating defined-benefit pensions, RRSP and TFSA accounts, and the provincial RRQ system — a combination that requires local knowledge, not a generic national template.
How we work — and what we do not do
Every Stonehmint client works with one named advisor from initial consultation through every annual review. We do not rotate files between generalists or hand you to a junior associate once the plan is written. Meetings are held in our office on Rue Saint-Jean or by video for clients who prefer it; we document every meeting in writing and share the summary with you before the week is out. Our fee structure is transparent and disclosed before any engagement begins — we charge for planning time, not for assets under management. We are rigorous about the limits of what financial planning can promise: we model scenarios with conservative assumptions, we flag where outcomes depend on factors outside any advisor's control, and we will tell you plainly when a question belongs to your accountant, your notary, or your physician rather than to us. Retirement planning done well is partly financial and partly a discipline of clear thinking about what you want the next thirty years to look like — and that is the conversation we are here to have.
